Rajasthan Royals Surprise Win – IPL 2008

The year 2008 witnessed the start of a cricketing event that made impression on all the aspects of the Indian cricket. Yes we are talking about the Indian Premier League. It added to the popularity of the game & for players it gave a platform where they could prove themselves to wing their dreams.

The competition

In this first season, total eight teams competed for the trophy ornamented with diamonds, rubby & sapphires and a winner’s cheque of 4. cr with overall prize money of 12 crore. These teams fought in 56 league matches and top four made to the semis.

The Finals

The final took place between Rajasthan royals & Chennai Super Kings, that Rajasthan Royals won in a match that went down to the last ball. Yusuf Pathan was declared the man of the match for his all-rounder performance of 56 runs in 39 balls along with bowling states of 3/22.

The Awards

Shane Watson was declared the man of the series. Shaun Marsh scored the most runs(616) and won the orange cap while Sohail Tanvir took the most no of wickets (22)and won the purple cap. Special award for fair play was won by the Chennai super kings. Shreevats Goswami of RCB was awarded as the emerging player of the year.

The Conclusion

Mumbai Indians was the costliest team and entered as a favourite in the tournament but the underdog Rajasthan royals emerged as the champions.This can be attributed to the team efforts of the Rajasthan royals.
